The End Of An Era

from Opening Statement by Derrick Faith

/

about

Song number 2 I wrote that was intended for TSD use. The vocal melody was much different back then. It's more of a pop metal song, which is a style I don't delve into very often. I remember writing the main riff on my front porch around 2 am. That seems to be where I do most of my really melodic writing (see California Deal Gone Wrong by TSD for a great example).

lyrics

Mourning the loss of an
Intangible creation
And I go for some sleep
Too many cigarettes protecting
You and your feelings
While wishing away regret

The mercy killing of a life that can't grow
Nine years hits so hard
Will you still sing to me?
Self preservation of my heart it still wants to
Give some more
But it can't seem to find the words

Where do I go
Nowhere feels like home

I hit the sidewalk with a new phase of intent
It's my purpose
But it feels like no one else
Could give a shit
And I've been trying so hard
Just to meet you on the other side
But it does seem to get any better

Than the man that I was
How many years have I been gone
While I was chasing a dream
I used to fall in love with all the words you wrote
Now I'd give them all away for peace

Where do I go now
I've torn down my only home now

A bitter taste of what was never not now,
Not ever, it's getting better than the misery
That I'm left with
And the guilt of trying so much just to make it something worthwhile
So I can let go of it

Will you let me sing some more?
And tell me how much it meant to you
