For What It's Worth

from Opening Statement by Derrick Faith

/

about

This song had the weirdest journey from inception (in around 2013) to it's current finished version. It started out with me trying to write a dubstep song with guitars. The first few riffs were written as a joke in my garage (under the working title of Craptain Cunch of all things) one evening I was hanging out with Aimee. It was jammed with Two Sly Deuce way back when Jeff was in the band, but we never really felt it. My intent was just to scrap the riffs. Then, earlier this year while I was driving I listened to a shitty demo I made of the first part and added the instrumental break. All of a sudden all the riffs snapped into place and it became a very personal song about watching someone get sick. The promises you make, and the struggle to honor those promises when you feel like giving up.

lyrics

Too see it for what it's worth
Tripping over the guilt
On the way to bitter
Reminiscence

Strive to do better
Than those have done before
But there's no way to know
For sure, if you're wrong
Until it's too late

Stifling
It's coming over the airwaves
Stinging with the salt of your tears
Gathering
For the coming destruction
Of everything that's left of your fears

Please don't try to
Make this less than it is
Not giving up that easy
There's still so much to be done
You can bet on me
I won't let you down
Don't say sorry

Too see it as not what it is
Stumbling over your guilt
On the way to a better
Reminiscent memory
We build

Strive to do no less
Than the best
Lest you know
For sure, if you're wrong
After it's said and done

Hey you,
What you know?
Breaking Mountains
Over the hill
Just to pass the time
And
What becomes of a fight
Without all the glory?

Please don't try
Make this less than it is
Not giving up that easy
There's still so much to be done
You can bet on me
I won't let you down
No more sorry
(It's just the rhythm of a life)

I don't want this
Honor anymore
Help me
I know you're drowning in it too

I can't just
Leave anymore
So I'll gladly
Come drown with you
It's the least I can do
For you

And I'm Trying
It's all just too real to be
Within the motion of possible outcomes
Pulling like a tide
Toward a simple infinity

One of these times will be the last time
So don't put this shit on me
How can I promise you the future
With so much uncertainty
All I know is you can
Rely on, rely on, rely on me
From the bottom of my heart
Through the depths of hell
I'll take care of it
That I can promise you

I promise you
I promise you
